Today NY Senator Chuck Schumer suggested that there would be mass protests if the current immigration bill did not pass the House. Why is this bad? Many illegals would be in one place, easy to detain and then deport. Problem solved.
Seriously though, I find his implied threat of disobedience, civil or not, disturbing. Senator Schumer should take a moment and be more concerned with his constituents who are citizens of THIS country. Are new immigration laws really necessary when we don’t enforce the ones we already have? Perhaps Chuck should go to The border states and talk to the families that have lost family members to Mexican drug violence.
Do you think we are willing to enforce our current laws? Absent a national ID card, and regular police stops (sound like Austria in 1905?) I just don’t think it is possible.
Allowing local and state law enforcement agencies to apply federal and state statues without being being encumbered by politicals appointees would remedy the issue. There is no reason that an ILLEGAL immigrant should not be immediately deported. The have broken our laws and should leave. The same is done by every other country.
